Soil

Students are learning about soil in science. Here are our curriculum expectations:

1. assess the impact of soils on society and the environment, and of society and the environment on soils;
2. investigate the composition and characteristics of different soils;
3. demonstrate an understanding of the composition of soils, the types of soils, and the relationship between soils and other living things.

Students inspected soil with magnifying glasses. Some tried to sort the different components of the soil.

Some animals use soil to help build their homes.

We tried an experiment where we put soil in a jar, added water, shook the jar and set it on the ledge overnight.

By the next day the soil separated!

Halloween Fun

Students were engaged in Halloween Literacy centres this morning.
A computer station (watching Halloween movie trailers and coming up with a catchy poster to lure a target audience to watch the whole movie.)

A paragraph writing centre. Students wrote 3 paragraphs. They will be assessed on an indented topic sentence, details to support and a closing sentence.

Roll-a-monster. Students created a monster using different textured wallpaper scraps.

We did a little dancing to prepare for our dance presentation on Friday.

This afternoon, students sweat to Halloween stations.

Kids were tired by the end...

The fact that it was indoor recess all day was no big deal!
