This is such an exciting year for your child as he/she will grow, change and learn so much! We are going to have a fabulous year together!
Here are some details about 3 G:
AGENDA and MAILBAG: Your child may purchase an agenda for $ 7. Please pay by school cash on-line, cash or check as soon as you can. This is an excellent communication tool for our partnership. I will have the students write daily and I will send messages when necessary. PLEASE INITIAL THE AGENDA NIGHTLY! I will check the agenda every morning and will respond to any questions, and note any early dismissals. The mailbag I purchased for the children will be used to carry their agenda, mail from the office and homework/tests. The mailbag will prevent the tearing and misplacing of paper. Please ensure your child is using their mailbag daily.
BLOG: Our classroom blog posts special events and activities, links to games, curriculum expectations. I will try to send all project information and newsletters via the blog to save paper. This will also allow parents and students to reference the blog and not have to worry about misplacing assignment expectations. You may subscribe to the blog in order to be notified when there are new posts, or just check weekly to see whats happening.
HEALTHY MORNING SNACK: Your child will be given a 15 minute morning snack (approx. 10:30) where healthy snacks (yogurt, fruit, veggies, cheese and crackers, cereal bars) are encouraged. Desserts and sweets are recommended after the students eat their lunch or during the optional afternoon snack (right before afternoon recess).
LUNCH: For those who would like to drop off hot lunches for their children, I just wanted to remind you that students have 40 minutes of recess prior to their 20 minute lunch.

LEADER OF THE DAY: The children will take turns (ABC order) being the helper of the day. This is very popular with the students as they sit beside the teacher, are the line leader and help with any jobs during the day. If a student misses their leader day, no worries, they will swap days with the following person.
HOMEWORK: Each night students should be practicing basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, telling time on an analogue clock,...). It is important for children to be exposed to real life math frequently (cooking, weather, distance, time,...). Students can work/play on math websites to reinforce math skills in a fun and engaging way. Our class blog has links to some math games and students will soon be enrolled in Prodigy which is a game where students practice math facts as they have fun!
On occasion, students will have homework. The children will be working hard all school day and homework will typically be unfinished work. If you notice several incomplete pages in their duotangs, please have your child work for a few minutes to catch up. Students are also expected to read nightly. A weekly reading program will be sent home in a couple of weeks. Students will be expected to bring their reading duotangs to school every Monday for checking. Reading a variety of text will keep things interesting; non-fiction, fiction, chapter books, magazines, comic books/graphic novels,...

QUIZ/TESTS: If there is an upcoming test or quiz, I will let the students know in advance and encourage them to bring home the appropriate duotang. Students will post a note in their agendas to inform parents and remind themselves.
GYM: Our gym day Thursday, however we will have Daily Physical Activity (DPA) throughout the week. If weather permits, we will go outside for DPA.
5 + DAYS ABSENCE: If you are planning a vacation where your child will miss school for 5 or more consecutive days there is a form that must be filled out at the office. It is called "The prolonged absence form".
